In the aerospace aircraft manufacturing process, many links involve the demolding process. Although the demolding process has existed for many years and the technology is very mature, the technical requirements for demolding have also changed in many precision manufacturing fields. Very challenging.

What is demolding?

PTFE demolding FABRIC

In simple terms, demolding is removing the processed material from the mold.

Although it sounds simple, it is not easy to remove in many industries due to the high temperature or complex shape of the newly formed mold.

Therefore, the requirements for material contact in the demolding process are often high-temperature resistance, low friction coefficient, and a certain degree of air permeability. Thus, in aerospace manufacturing, PTFE-coated fiberglass fabric and PTFE tape are commonly used as release materials.

Why use a release material of PTFE material?

PTFE has many excellent characteristics, such as low friction coefficient, high-temperature resistance, corrosion resistance, etc., and can be made into materials with various proportions of air permeability and light transmission according to requirements, so it is very suitable for use as a mold release tool.

Another prominent feature of PTFE material is that it is easy to cut and is suitable for use in various complex environments.

Where is Teflon-coated fabric release used?

The most common places in aerospace where PTFE-coated fabrics are used for mold release are:

Helicopter aircraft blade demoulding

Radar radome (communication or antenna) demoulding

Aircraft composite fuselage, wing, tail release

wire wrap insulation

In the above industries, the most common demoulding method is the demoulding in the composite vacuum tank or the demoulding of the vacuum casting machine tank.

What products and specifications are used in aerospace manufacturing demolding?

PTFE membrane tapes

Standard release fabrics include: PTFE impermeable fabrics, PTFE coated materials with custom air permeability, high-strength breathable tapes, PTFE membrane tapes, etc.

Standard specifications of PTFE fabric:

(1) 7-filament, 8-filament, and 13-filament PTFE-coated glass fiber fabric with high tear resistance.

(2) 12-wire or 13-wire tear-resistant tape

(3) 8 silk film tape
